Beaded SHELL NECKLACE
PREDYNASTIC EGYPT
3300 - 3100 BCE
Inspired by predynastic finds in Upper Egypt, this necklace of handmade beads and drilled cowrie shells is strung on a cord of twisted flax. The use of cowrie shells as amulets is an ancient practice with a long tradition in Egypt, enduring from the Predynastic through to the Ptolemaic Period.
