Although many aspects of dress remained remarkably consistent throughout Ancient Egypt’s history, the New Kingdom did see the adoption of several new garments such as the ‘bag tunic’. This is a replica of a garment from the Tomb of Kha. It features a keyhole-shaped neck, reinforced with a twisted linen cord that doubles as a neck closure. The base of the garment is finished with a fringed hem, constructed by twining the warp threads of the cloth. Side seams are finished selvedge to selvedge, as was common practice in ancient dress for economy of material.
