Fringed Sash
ANCIENT EGYPT
2868 - 525 BCE
Sashes were an important part of everyday dress in Ancient Egypt, used both as simple waist ties and elaborate decorative elements. This reconstruction is of a narrow sash, used to secure the waistband of a kilt. The long edges are finished with a simple rolled hem, and the short edges feature a decorative fringe, created by twisting together the warp threads of the fabric.
