Aketon
MEDIEVAL EUROPE
1200 - 1400 CE
The aketon was a padded arming garment worn across medieval Western Europe as both a stand-alone garment and a foundation for armour. This reproduction is thinly quilted in linen and tailored close to the body in order to reduce the overall weight of the mail worn over it. An innovation in medieval European clothing - a shaped sleeve head and arm scye allow for ease of movement with the tailored fit. Sleeve cuffs are finished with eyelets and spiral fastened with a leather lace in order to sit close to the forearm.
