A handmade historical reconstruction of a Bronze Age sprang hairnet from the Borum Eshoj burials in Denmark

Hairnet

BORUM ESHØJ
ca. 1350 BCE

The ancient technique of sprang is a method of constructing textiles with high elasticity. A simple frame spanned with warp threads forms the base of the technique, in which threads are interlinked to form a symetrical net-like textile. Sprang hairnets are known from several Bronze Age sites, including the woman’s grave at Borum Eshøj.
